PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

At MCNC, professional development is a core belief, with our PD work centered on reflective practice. We believe that school staff should participate in ongoing, embedded professional development focused on student success. MCNC professional development helps new teachers understand and implement the goals of the MCNC community. MCNC professional development is research–based, data–driven, and collaborative, taking place through on-site residencies and with the help of on-site and virtual expert coaches who work with school administrators and staff in developing a college preparatory program. Staff at MCNC schools exhibit high levels of satisfaction and engagement with their professional development opportunities.

 

What Professional Development Looks Like at MCNC Schools:
  • Meeting time for professional teacher groups/learning communities is built into the school’s weekly schedule. Working in small groups, teachers focus on  instructional practice and offer mutual assistance.
  • Each staff member has a written professional development plan based on personal and school needs.
  • Teachers regularly review each other’s teaching and student work.
  • Staff apply new knowledge and skills to their work in a continuous cycle of improvement.
  • Teachers engage in peer review to develop democratic governance and teacher empowerment.

Individualized Professional Development for MCNC Schools:

Based on a school’s specific needs MCNC can develop a unique, targeted professional development program. This professional development program can be delivered in writing, online, or in person. MCNC has a talented staff and an extensive network of consultants who are experienced in developing individualized professional development programs.
